There are laws of nature which describe the reality of our natural world, for example, that things always fall downward and that if left alone, things always degenerate into chaos.

There are also laws of life, which describe the reality of how human life works. The one-verse summary of it comes in Proverbs 28:13,

Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.

Two laws of life:

  1. Conceal your sins, and you will not prosper
  2. Confess and forsake your sins, and you will receive mercy

There are no exceptions to this at all. All sins, be they private or public, attract destruction, but similarly, all sins, be they private or public, receive God’s mercy when they are confessed and forsaken.

Knowing these two laws of life, the next verse in Proverbs provides the wisdom on how to live in a life governed by these two laws. Proverbs 28:14,

Blessed is the one who fears the Lord always, but whoever hardens his heart will fall into calamity.

Two options for living a life governed by the laws of life:

  1. Believe and obey God all the time
  2. Keep doing what you want to do

Blessing is in store for those who fear the Lord always.
