Can a man hide himself in secret places so that I cannot see him? declares the LORD. Do I not fill heaven and earth? declares the LORD.

Jeremiah 23:24

All of God is everywhere all the time. This does not mean that God is mystically “in” everything as false religions claim, but rather that God, as a being, is fully present at every location.

This is very clearly illustrated in the life of the prophet Jonah. God spoke to him when he was in Israel. He tried to flee from the presence of the Lord, but the God in Israel was also the God on the sea. Jonah inherently knew that it is impossible to find a place where God is not, for when under the sea and in the belly of a large fish, Jonah prayed to God, and God was there too and heard him. God proved Himself present in the pagan city of Nineveh, and God proved Himself present to a lonely prophet sulking under a little plant.

God is always everywhere present in His full personal being. Repeatedly God has promised that He will never leave or forsake us. There is an interesting point of application of God’s omnipresence in Hebrews 13.

Keep your life free from love of money,
and be content with what you have,
for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
So we can confidently say,
“The Lord is my helper;
I will not fear;
what can man do to me?”

Hebrews 13:5-6

Because God is always present, do not be greedy for more of earth’s treasures, and do not fear earth’s inhabitants. Our God is with us!
