“Pride comes before destruction”, and it’s counterpart “humility comes before honour” are proven true in countless earthly ways each day. The life of Jesus Christ proves it to be true on a Divine way too. Jesus was fully exalted, existing in the very form of God (Phil 2:6). But He humbled himself, becoming obedient to the point of a shameful cross (Phil 2:8). Then, only then, was Jesus exalted again to His full Divine glory, and added to that the fame of his name.
Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name,Philippians 2:9
Before the Lord’s birth, the Son of God was a known, but somewhat obscured person of the Trinity. Before the Lord’s death, Jesus was the name of a mere man. But after the death and resurrection of Jesus, the Christ, His name is the name by which true worship is defined.
In simple terms, Philippians 2:9 explains how Jesus became as famous as He now is. He was always great and glorious, but because of His humility, He has now been honoured more than any other. Jesus died for you and for me, therefore we worship Him as our Lord and our God (John 20:28)!
