Are you constantly aware of our salvation and continually thank the Lord for it and praise Him for it? Perhaps we fall short of frequent praise over our salvation because salvation has been toned down so much by professing Christians who fill churches yet are little different from the world.
You might have seen Victoria falls, climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro, witnessed the birth of a baby, or seen earth from outer space (even if it was only on Google Earth), and as much as you might talk about it, as much as you might think back to the moment and play it over in your mind, all these are nothing compared to the spectacular and lofty nature of spiritual salvation.
Salvation is wonderful, glorious, beyond comprehension and awe-inspiring.
Salvation is the biggest ‘WOW’-moment of life.
Psalm 42, which begins with the well-known words “As the deer pants for the water so my soul pants for you O, God” continues with a self-counselling session which includes this instruction repeated twice (v. 5, 11):
Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God
Do you notice the transformation from the default spiritual state to the spiritual elation in this Psalmist’s soul?
The saints in Jerusalem were most filled with awe and the fear of the Lord, not when the Apostles did miracles, but when Saul, the persecutor, got saved. Saul, who was then renamed Paul, was so awe-struck by the reality of salvation – both his own and that others also get saved, that he couldn’t start a letter to a group of believers without first pontificating on their salvation for a couple of verses, or in the case of Romans, the first 12 chapters! Even the letters to the church in Corinth, the church which received his harshest rebukes, start with the joyful memories of their salvation.
Salvation is spectacular, because salvation is Total Transformation.
Salvation is Total Transformation of the human being. It’s like pimping an old rusty VW Beetle into a new V10 TDI, all wheel drive VW Touareg. It’s like leaving a dying plant in the hand of a gardener with a green finger to return a week later to a plant that is green, lush and full of little buds. It’s like a baby taking the first breath outside the womb.
Total transformation.
Behold, God is my salvation;
Isaiah 12:2
I will trust, and will not be afraid;
for the LORD GOD is my strength and my song,
and he has become my salvation.
