You have given me relief when I was in distress
Psalm 4:1
Be gracious to me and hear my prayer.
Isn’t that the testimony and plea of every believer? God has given us relief when we were in distress, but we still plead for His listening ear and His gracious care.
Even if our distress is an ongoing reality, we still receive much relief from our God. He has set us apart for Himself and hears us when we pray (Ps 4:3). No matter our distress, we can still worship God rightly and trust Him (Ps 4:5). Others might be free from distress and have all things in abundance, but with the Lord we have more joy than they have prosperity, and we lie down and sleep better than they do because our God cares for us (Ps 4:7-8).
The godly never suffer quietly by themselves for they call out for relief from the God Who excels at giving them joy and a good night’s sleep.
