Someone recently said that prayers in church should be long enough so that the false worshipers get bored. There is indeed a lot of truth to that statement. It is the kind of statement that can easily be abused, but to the pure worshiper, it is a statement that renews a right spirit of worship from within. Public prayers are indeed something not only to hear, but to echo as an expression of your own heart when your own words and understanding of God might seem weak and insufficient for the worship of the Divine.

Public acts of worship with the Church are indeed the pinnacle of our human existence. The attention to spiritual things through song and prayer, coupled with the intense absorption with God’s Revelation to us is something that, as the cliche goes, we take for granted.

May the words of an anonymous song-writer be a primer in your attitude for church.

A PSALM FOR GIVING THANKS.
Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth!
Serve the LORD with gladness!
Come into his presence with singing!
Know that the LORD, he is God!
It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
and his courts with praise!
Give thanks to him; bless his name!
For the LORD is good;
his steadfast love endures forever,
and his faithfulness to all generations.

Psalm 100
