Courageous men and women are individuals who esteem a specific list of values and who live by a stated set of principles. Wimps value only themselves and react to life as it happens with whatever they think best at the time. As Christians we ought to stop our wimpish ways and take courage. We need God’s Word to define what we value, and we need God’s Word to direct our lives according to sound principles.
The words spoken by God to Joshua are self-evident.
Only be strong and very courageous, being careful to do according to all the law that Moses my servant commanded you.
Joshua 1:7-8
Do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go.
This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it.
For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
Likewise Ezra’s courage and success in ministry is attributed to his expertise in studying, doing, and teaching God’s Word (Ezra 7:10).
The author of Psalm 119 stood with courage amidst trouble because of his devotion to God’s Word (Psalm 119:5-6).
Jesus was courageous to the point of death because He was committed to doing the revealed will of God (John 6:38).
The Apostle Paul was courageous as a missionary because he accepted God’s Word as his task-list and lived to please God (1 Thess 2:2-4).
All these, and many more, ended the race with great success, all because they continually meditated on God’s Word.
Your own daily Bible diet is a statement on how wimpish or how courageous you are living today.
