The Apostle John is certainly not known for brevity or conciseness. But in a single verse John captures for us the entire earthly life of Jesus, and the opening four words describe his birth.

And the Word became flesh
and dwelt among us,
and we have seen his glory,
glory as of the only Son from the Father,
full of grace and truth.

John 1:14

“the Word” – Jesus is the pre-existing expression of God, being Himself fully God (John 1:1, 18). “became flesh” – Luke tells of all the events, John reveals the essence, namely, that the One Who is God, is now also man – full Deity and full humanity.

the Word became flesh

Meditate on that this week, remembering His earthly life, ministry, death, resurrection, ascension and return!
