By Even though Judas is the name made infamous for being a traitor to the Lord Jesus, there are quite a number of Judases with more acceptable names who have done the same to the Lord Jesus. They have promoted the Lord Jesus, loved the Lord Jesus in some way at least, and followed the Lord Jesus for a while, but hardened their heart and committed treason against the Lord Jesus. Thankfully it is always a vast minority among the countless ordinary faithful believers, but it does cause fear in many of the true believers whether or not God ends up losing some of His sheep. We know that those who left the faith were never part of it, but still the nagging question remains “Are their some whom God really saved, but then lost?”
This question is common to mankind, and therefore it is no surprise to find a very clear answer in the Scriptures. It is an answer that is brilliantly clear, resoundingly sure, and overwhelmingly comforting.
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.
John 10:27-29
For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:38-39
For I the LORD do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed.
Malachi 3:6
What God said about His choice of David is true for every believer too.
I will not remove from him my steadfast love or be false to my faithfulness.
Psalm 89:33
In the words of Romans 8:37, when it comes to being saved by God, true believers are “more than conquerors through Him who loved us”.
