Keep a close watch on yourself and on the teaching. Persist in this, for by so doing you will save both yourself and your hearers
1 Timothy 4:16
A pastor is expected by God to fulfill his ministry with personal integrity. He must know Truth, hold fast to Truth, avoid irreverent silliness, and teach the Truth with clarity and conviction. He must teach the sound doctrine of the Word of God, and he must command obedience to all the righteous standards in the Word of God. He must be a teacher of the Truth, the whole Truth, and nothing but the Truth, if he is to fulfill his ministry.
But he must also model the application of that Truth in his personal life. He must indeed practise what he preaches. He must draw believers to faithfulness by his own example. His own example must chase unbelieving critics away from any and all attempts to discredit God’s Work.
There is a proper way for pastors to behave in God’s church. He must teach truth and model godliness. Expect that from your pastor. Then, by God’s grace, we will all know truth and live godly.
