By We live in a world where pride and wealth have become the definition of “the good life”. Yet, Proverbs 16:18 affirms that pride does not lead to good, but to destruction. In the next verse, Proverbs 16:19, one of the “better-than” truths in Proverbs is that being humble and poor is better than wealthy and proud.
Then, the next verse offers the source of finding some good in this life
Whoever gives thought to the word will discover good,
Proverbs 16:20
and blessed is he who trusts in the LORD.
Not only is the content of God’s Word a wealth of goodness compared to the wisdom of this world, but giving thought on how to live out the truisms of God’s Word produces the kind of righteous habits that makes one’s experience of life in this world as good as it can possibly be. It might not make you renowned, but you will be known for your integrity, honesty, and truthfulness. It might not make you rich, but you will sleep better at night. It might not bring you your own kingdom, but your home will be filled with love and kindness.
Discover the good in God’s Word. Live it. Trust God, that is where blessing comes from.
