It is easy to believe that you love your spouse, family, friends, or neighbour as God commanded. But until that love is demonstrated through a loving deed, it is merely good sentiment.

Love is patient and kind;
love does not envy or boast;
it is not arrogant or rude.
It does not insist on its own way;
it is not irritable or resentful;
it does not rejoice at wrongdoing,
but rejoices with the truth.
Love bears all things,
believes all things,
hopes all things,
endures all things.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7

Next time you think you love another, replace the word love with the different items from the verses above and see if you still believe that you truly love that person.

By way of change, identify two of the love descriptions that you don’t demonstrate very well. Pray that the Lord will work a complete and full love in you for others, and then get to work in practicing those two love descriptions too.

Love is only love when shown.
