The world says it is more blessed to get than to give, but the Bible literally says the opposite is true. Psalm 68 shows that God Himself is a giving God. Acts 20:35 reminds us that Jesus confirmed the truth that it is more blessed to give than to get.

Marriage is designed for that same purpose—to lead us in the blessed way of giving more than we get.

Ephesians 5:25 command every husband to give himself up for his wife—not only in the sense of giving your life for hers in a dangerous situation, but also giving yourself for her in making the late-night cup of tea, or the early-morning cup of coffee.

Ephesians 5 calls every wife to give her husband respect.

1 Corinthians 7 tells married couples, even in the more private pleasures of marriage, to give themselves to each other instead of demanding each other for themselves.

Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.

Philippians 2:3-4

Marriage is designed to teach humility. Make everything in your marriage a race to be more humble than the other, and you will be the most happily married couple ever!
