By If you think of spiritual warfare, what kind of contexts do you think of? Do you think of the context of a righteous and godly man, known for his gentleness? Do you think of a person who has a reputation for a clear explanation of the Gospel, the new birth, the practise of godliness, and the endurance of the saints?
One of the spiritual warfare passages in Scripture focusses on the kind of things that we should think of when we think of real spiritual warfare.
But as for you, O man of God, flee these things [see verses 3-10]. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
1 Timothy 6:11-12
Have you made the good confession of the faith that leads to eternal life? Are you fleeing the things that this world pursues? Are you pursuing a righteous response to every situation, a godly life, faithfulness to the Lord, endurance under trials, and gentleness in your relationships? Then you are the context in which spiritual warfare is being fought successfully. Then you are already extinguishing all the fiery darts of the evil one.
It is when we stand firm in the work that Christ has done in us, and when we live out the fruit of the Spirit, that we demonstrate that God is indeed for us, and that even the Devil and his demons are already overcome.
