Emotions send us all over the place. They might not be inherently evil, but the more we listen to our feelings, the more we get into trouble. By reading the Scriptures one quickly realises that it is like a giant app for emotions. Open the Scriptures, find the emotion you are feeling right now, click on it, and sure enough, there is always a perfectly crafted word of advice that pops up.
When I am afraid, I put my trust in you (Psalm 56:3)
Why are you cast down? Hope in God (Psalm 42:5)
When angry, listen more and speak less (James 1:19-20)
When grieving over your sin, repent (2 Corinthians 7:10)
When worrying, take courage in God (Isaiah 35:4) and pray (Philippians 4:6)
When irritated, don’t say anything, just move on (Proverbs 12:16)
When feeling guilty, confess and do not cover it (Proverbs 28:13)
Go, read the Scriptures. Find every feeling you feel, and counsel yourself with God’s perfect Word.
We tend to listen to the small perspective of our emotions, when instead, we should be speaking proven Truth to them.
