One of the cherished truths by Christians, is the reality that since salvation is not something we could do, God did it. With decisive omnipotence, God saved sinners. But, the question is then: “How can I be sure that God saved me?” 1 Thessalonians 1 is the answer to that question.

How can I be sure that God saved me?

For we know, brothers loved by God, that he has chosen you, because …

1. You can be sure that God saved you if when you heard the Gospel you were spiritually convicted

… our gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction.

2. You can be sure that God saved you if that spiritual conviction produced a Christ-like life as modelled by your pastor and elders

You know what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake. And you became imitators of us and of the Lord.

3. You can be sure that God saved you if you joyfully soak up as much of Scripture as you can even in the most trying of times

for you received the word in much affliction, with the joy of the Holy Spirit,

4. You can be sure that God saved you if you life is currently used by God to showcase what true conversion and a Heavenward life of faith looks like

so that you became an example to all the believers in Macedonia and in Achaia. For not only has the word of the Lord sounded forth from you in Macedonia and Achaia, but your faith in God has gone forth everywhere, so that we need not say anything. For they themselves report concerning us the kind of reception we had among you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come.

Test your soul on these evidences of God’s saving work. Do you merely profess to be saved, or has God truly saved you?
