You suffered some unfair treatment at the hands of another, what do you do? Do you return the insult? Or perhaps tweet, facebook, and status-update it? Or maybe give in and do the same, because it appears that’s how life operates?
Thankfully God spoke on this matter of maintaining a Christian way of unfair treatment by others.
He starts with a principle:
Do not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, bless, for to this you were called, that you may obtain a blessing.
1 Peter 3:9
And then bursts out into proverbial poetry!
For
1 Peter 3:10-12
“Whoever desires to love life and see good days,
let him keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit;
let him turn away from evil and do good;
let him seek peace and pursue it.
For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayer.
But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”
Never give in to the subtle pressure of the world to give up on righteousness and blessing for the sake of evil and deceit. The Lord is watching; He will vindicate us.
