God Is the Only God

Isaiah 45 and 46 contain four affirmations that the LORD is the only God. This is, however, not just some stand-alone truth. Each affirmation of the LORD’s exclusivity to God-ness is accompanied by an implication of that truth for mankind

I am the LORD, and there is no other,
besides me there is no God;
I equip you, though you do not know me,
that people may know,
from the rising of the sun and from the west,
that there is none besides me;
I am the LORD, and there is no other.

Isaiah 45:5-6

Because the LORD is the only God, all mankind, even unbelievers who do not acknowledge Him, still receives His enablement to live their lives.

For thus says the LORD,
who created the heavens
(he is God!),
who formed the earth and made it
(he established it;
he did not create it empty,
he formed it to be inhabited!):
“I am the LORD, and there is no other.
I did not speak in secret,
in a land of darkness;
I did not say to the offspring of Jacob,
‘Seek me in vain.’
I the LORD speak the truth;
I declare what is right.

Isaiah 45:18-19

Because the LORD is the only God, all mankind can find Him and know the truth about the realities we live in.

And there is no other god besides me,
a righteous God and a Savior;
there is none besides me.
“Turn to me and be saved,
all the ends of the earth!
For I am God, and there is no other.

Isaiah 45:21-22

Because the LORD is the only God, all mankind can repent of their false worship and be saved.

remember the former things of old;
for I am God, and there is no other;
I am God, and there is none like me,
declaring the end from the beginning
and from ancient times things not yet done,
saying, ‘My counsel shall stand,
and I will accomplish all my purpose,’

Isaiah 46:9-10

Because the LORD is the only God, His will will always be done.

We ought truly be very thankful that it is the LORD who is the only God, and that He is indeed, the only one. Because only the LORD is God, every person has what they need for daily life, has the opportunity to come to know God, can repent and be saved, and can be assured that nobody can thwart God’s wonderful purposes for us.
