By We are sinners, and one of our natural skills is the skill of covering our sin. Job 31:33 talks about the habit of covering our sin, hiding it in our heart where we might be fully aware of it, but we keep it from being seen by others, and we believe even keeping it from being seen by God.
That skill that is so natural to us regarding our own sin is a skill that we should stop using for our own sin and use for the supposed sins of others instead. If you cover your own sin, you will not prosper; you must confess, or uncover-to-God, your sin (Proverbs 28:13). But, if you cover all the offences that others cause you, then you have used the skill of covering sin well.
Good sense makes one slow to anger,
Proverbs 19:11
and it is his glory to overlook an offence.
It is an honourable thing to overlook, or cover, the many offences of others. Just like you sinfully cover your own sin so nobody will know about it, so you must honourably cover the supposed sin of another so not everybody knows about it. When it comes to all the daily ways in which others offend you, learn to cover it. Do not bring it up in some future argument; do not bring it up in your mind over and over again as you seek revenge; do not become embittered against the person by remembering the offence. It is your honour to cover such offences.
It is wise to uncover your own sin to God, but cover the offences of others.
